?? TEXAS ABATE IS WORKING FOR YOU!!! ?? If you haven't been keeping up with what's going on in our Legislative World ~ here's a quick update leading up to our 2023 Texas Motorcycle Legislative Day: JANUARY 22, 2022 - LEGISLATIVE PREP SESSION FLIER - 88th Legislative Prep Session.jpg In preparation for the 88th Texas Legislative Session, Texas ABATE hosted a Legislative Prep Seminar in Lake Dallas, TX which was open to ALL Texas Bikers. Approximately 80 riders from a large number of rider organizations and MCs attended. Our Guest Speaker for the Seminar was Jonathan Mathers, Legislative Director for Senator Drew Springer. Lane Filtering - MC Between 2 Cars.jpg FEBRUARY 26, 2022 - LANE-FILTERING BILL PROPOSED Our Texas ABATE Legislative Officer, (Skee Dodson), was invited to speak at the COC&I Meet & Greet in Converse, TX. During this meeting, he spoke about the issues Texas Bikers are facing, and how Texas ABATE supports all Texas Riders. Skee asked how many of those present might be interested in a "Lane-Filtering" Bill, where a biker could legally inch up between two lanes of STOPPED traffic at an intersection - under certain conditions - to avoid a rear-end collision; an overwhelming majority of those present were in favor of such a bill. . .so Texas ABATE ran with it! . . .Volumes of personal correspondence with our Legislators, and numerous calls & communication with anyone & everyone involved legislatively has taken place. . .to get to this point: JANUARY 10, 2023 ~ OPENING DAY Capitol - Austin, TX.jpg Skee and a few otherTexas ABATE Members went to Austin on January 10th ~ Opening Day for the 88th Texas Legislative Session. We dropped into the offices of some of our "key" Legislators with a quick hello ~ and to brief them on the primary issues that Texas ABATE wants to see bills passed for during this Legislative Session: *Motorcycle Profiling *Malfunctioning Red-Light *Lane-Filtering *(NEW) Definition of a Motorcycle ************************************************** JANUARY 23, 2023 TEXAS MOTORCYCLE LEGISLATIVE DAY 16) Texas ABATE Members with Drew Springer.jpg What a whirlwind weekend it was!!! Four (4) Members of Texoma ABATE (Skee Dodson, Tina Dodson, Josh Englehaupt & Shana Pless), boarded the "Bus" ~ and one (1) BRAVE Rider...(Mark Thomson) headed out very early on a COLD Sunday Morning ~ January 22nd 2) Skee Speaking at COC&I Meet & Greet.jpg 3) Ski & Skee.jpg FIRST STOP - American Legion in Round Rock, TX to attend the COC&I's "Meet & Greet" Orientation Session, where Skee was asked to speak on behalf of Texas ABATE. During his speech, he made it clear that Texas ABATE is a major part of the "I" (Independents....aka, not necessarily "club" members) in COC&I (Council of Clubs & Independents)....and that we are locking arms with ALL Texas Bikers to work together to get common-sense motorcycle legislation passed during this 88th Legislative Session. 5) Texas ABATE Members at B & B - Moonstone Ranch.jpg 6) Work Night at B&B.jpg NEXT STOP - Moonstone Ranch B&B. Texas ABATE provided FREE Lodging at the B&B for any active members who wanted to participate in 2023 Motorcycle Legislative Day! We stayed at a fantastic 7-Bedroom/8-Bath Private Home that could sleep 16 guests ~ and it was absolutely beautiful! It wasn't "all play" though. Skee distributed handouts, and we all sat down around the table (after watching the Cowboys lose...??) and went over the bills that Texas ABATE wants to pass during this 88th Legislative Session. We talked about how we should approach our representatives at the Capitol, and went over a detailed schedule of appointments (and suggested "drop-ins") for each member, so they could visit with their respective reps the next day at the State Capitol 8b) Skee Speaking on State Capitol Steps.jpg Skee Speaking at Capitol.jpg 7) Shana, Tina & Mark Carrying TX ABATE Banner.jpg 11) In the Rotunda at the TX State Capitol.jpg EARLY THE NEXT MORNING - We left the B&B around 7:00 am and headed to the State Capitol. We proudly carried our Texas ABATE Banner, and joined other Texas Bikers in the traditional procession up the sidewalk, and on up to the Capitol steps. TEXAS ABATE HAD A VOICE AT THE STATE CAPITOL!!! Skee, our Texas ABATE Legislative Officer, was asked to speak on the Capitol steps!!! We FINALLY made it!!! For some of our members, it was their very first time inside the Texas State Capitol!!! Members split up and followed their schedule of meetings with their respective Legislators....and met back in the Capitol Cafeteria for lunch and to re-group for a full afternoon. 16) Texas ABATE Members with Drew Springer.jpg 15) Skee Talking to Senator Drew Springer.jpg ABATE at Reggie Smith's Ofc (Joshua B).jpg Texoma ABATE Members had some AWESOME meetings with our Legislators ~ other Texas ABATE Chapters were simultaneously meeting with their district Legislators ~ and we actually had our Malfunctioning Red-Light Bill FILED by Senator Drew Springer!!!
